How to Handle Fear In All the Chaos

How to Handle Fear In All the Chaos

How to Handle Fear In All the Chaos

Fear is the New Pandemic

In these times of uncertainty, fear is rife. It’s as if our once easy-going community members have grown horns and turned into something we don’t recognize. These are certainly the worst of times for everyone. Yet most people will only get a mild case of COVID-19 and 98% will survive and thrive.

I’ve certainly never experienced a worldwide pandemonium such as this in my lifetime and I hope never to again. But it’s not the COVID-19 I’m talking about. The real pandemic is fear. Fear turns once rational human beings into weapons of unknown destruction, to themselves and others. Fear has been killing people for centuries.

Becoming A Spin-Doctor

You’re probably spending a lot of time at home now and even though you try not to watch the news, it’s difficult to avoid reports which display this fear; its viral on all streams of social media. Even friends and family have succumbed to the frenzy. It seems like it’s the only subject available right now.

So it’s up to you to become the spin-doctor and change the subject. If there are reports of airport closures, notice the ones that are open. If there are hospitals filling, introduce the ones in Wuhan that are being dismantled because they’re no longer needed. When this is the worse thing in the world, point out that pollution has dropped in countries that are no longer flying, such as China and Italy. Fear brings out the worst in people, but crises can bring out the very best in people.

Crises Can Bring Out The Best in People

The schools may be closed but many across the USA are using them as temporary kitchens to feed those in need. There is always an opportunity to shine in times of chaos. Why would you want to? Because it not only helps the people around you to feel better, but it will benefit you. It’s not other’s you need to change, because you can’t. You only need to get on top of your own fear and turn that fear in the direction of freedom.

Your life is never about what happens, it is and will always be about how you handle what happens. And if you find yourself in isolation, then it’s a wonderful time to develop new patterns. Ones that set you up for joy and success. I wrote an article recently on setting up your day so this is a great time to start. Your pattern of life has already been interrupted and it may never be the same again, so now is a great time to take up mindfulness, meditation, nature walks and all those things you put off previously.

The things that are good for your well-being, that cost nothing and help you connect to who you really are. It will uncover that valuable small space amongst the chaos.

Fear will always be a part of life

Fear will always be a part of humanity but we don’t have to let it stay like an old friend. Fear keeps company with uncertainty, isolation, depression, misunderstanding, and hopelessness. It brings out the worst of humanity and when we are in this space, all we can see is more of the same. It feels like it’s never going to end. It’s a little like standing in a deep hole and looking outward. All you’re going to see is more of the same hole.

Freedom is in the same space as love, hopefulness, encouragement, opportunity, inspiration, joy and appreciation. It’s the very best of humanity. When you stand in this space you feel sure and powerful and have much to give yourself, your family and everyone who connects with you. You become a beacon of light and inspiration.

The same situation is going on around you but you see it differently. Whenever there is the worst of times, there is also the best of times. The worst of times is shrouded in darkness and the best of times is presented when you wear the night vision goggles. Your night-vision goggles are the feelings of hope and encouragement.  We all have the opportunity to see the glass-half-empty or the glass as half-full. There is no right and wrong, it is our perception that makes it so.

Listening to your Inner Guidance

I remember traveling to see my parents just last year. They live 4 hours away. I was driving with my husband Allan and my 16-year-old son Jamieson. There was only one highway and mostly only one lane, so traffic is unpredictable. Teenagers never like getting up early but I insisted that we leave by 7 am that Friday morning. It was stuck in my head and so I made sure we did, despite Jamieson’s protests. Our trip was enjoyable and on the way back a few days later, we called into a country coffee shop. There on the counter was a local newspaper with the headlines. ‘Bruce Highway closed both ways for 6 hours after tanker crash’. The day it happened was the day we were traveling. It was Friday morning. The time of the accident was about 10 minutes after we had passed through that very location. Had we have left later we would have had a very long wait or we could have even been in the accident.

Learn to Read the Inner Signs

The moral of the story is that you can’t see the bigger picture. You don’t know what it is, so you need to be ready to read the signs. These are the inner signs and you can’t see them when you are standing in the darkness in fear. You need the night-vision goggles of hope and encouragement, to shed some light.

Below, the Mood Mastery Quickstart offers a PDF for you to understand your own inner signs. We call this your Mood Barometer as it’s your inner guidance system. Also included in the PDF is a Mood Map so you can plot your path from fear all the way to freedom.

Using Your Mood Barometer To Bridge The Gap

Using Your Mood Barometer To Bridge The Gap

Mood Barometer is Your Key to Staying on Track

Sometimes we find ourselves lost and way off-track and we wonder how this happened so suddenly. Yesterday we were ok and today, we’re lost. Our Mood Barometer is key to our understanding.

Being on track is rather like walking a well marked path through a familiar forest. It’s bright and breezy, and easy to follow. It’s an enjoyable experience. We know we’re on track because our mood is also bright and breezy. Life is exciting, we have a sense of freedom and inspiration flows.

Just like any path there are twists and turns, so how do we know when we are still on our path or not? That’s the job of our Mood Barometer.

Stages of Feeling Lost Without a Mood Barometer

Often, our mind will wander and our mood will take a turn. We still feel ok but inspiration is elusive and things aren’t quite working the way we’d like them to. We’re not quite sure what’s happening. This is when we’ve wandered off that forest path just a little without realising it.  When this occurs, many moods can set in, such as frustration.

Then we don’t know why things aren’t working and they just seem to get worse. This is a path through the forest that we are actually forging ourselves. It’s no longer paved and illuminated. But still, we don’t realise we’re off the path, eventhough we maybe discouraged. It’s probably somebody else’s fault anyway.

We hit rock bottom when fear and depression comes from being lost in an unknown forest for a long time. We aren’t able to recognise where we are or how we even got there. The only things that we can see are more of the same. More thick forest, more thoughts of things that aren’t working. We are well and truly lost.

Reading Your Own Mood Barometer

Most people don’t understand there’s a transition from one stage to the next. But, just like the forest that changes vegetation and light, we have a Mood Barometer that gives us indicators. Indicators of wandering off the path could be feelings of contentment or boredom. But they’re easy to ignore. These moods indicate that we should readjust our mood to get back on the well lit, familiar path of joy and excitement. And when we don’t, we wander further and further off track, until we can’t even recognise where we are or how we got there.

Role of Your Mood Barometer

It’s always salvageable but there’s a bridge from where we are to where we want to be and it needs to be traversed. We can’t make one giant leap and we need to find our way back to the path, so our thoughts and our moods are what we use to traverse the bridge. We feel our way back to the path.

Now it may seem as though the distance between the well-lit path and completely lost are very close, but it’s not. There are always indicators along the way. This is the job of our Mood Barometer, to indicate to us where we are located at any given time. When we’re aware of our moods, it becomes easier to readjust, well before we get lost.

Our Mood Barometer indicates where we are in relation to where we want to go. The well-lit path of joy and inspiration represents where we want to be and being lost in a strange forest represents fear and powerlessness, the furtherest point away. There are mood indicators every step of the way like signposts, to warn us of the direction we’re traveling. Most times, we ignore these signs.

Outside Influences on Your Mood

The reason our mood changes so rapidly is mostly because of the influence we give to outside factors. That’s other people, the response to our environment and opinions towards what’s happening in our lives.

For instance, if work isn’t a good environment, then it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong. When this happens, our mood follows and maybe frustration is the mood that occurs. This creates a habit of feeling frustrated every time we think about work. This frustration flows through every part of our lives, until everything is frustrating. The only thing that appears before us is more frustration.

This wasn’t a leap from inspiration to frustration, it was a subconscious meandering into the mood of frustration until frustration became the dominant mood. From there it’s easy to keep traveling in the direction our Mood Barometer indicates is well away from our path. Through disappointment, doubt, worry, blame and discouragement.  Once we’re there, it’s like trying to forge a path into the unknown. It’s difficult. That’s when life feels difficult and lonely.

We are never alone and we are never so lost that we can’t find our way back on track. All it takes is understanding our Mood Barometer and which way our moods are indicating. Closer to our path or further away. When we’re feeling discouraged and we want to feel great, our Mood Barometer is indicating that there’s a gap because it doesn’t feel good. Closing that gap by building a bridge is the best tool we can have in our Life Tool Box.

mood bridge

Developing the Tools for a Bridge

To develop this, we first need an Awareness.

  • An awareness of how we’re feeling and an awareness of what we’re thinking.

We don’t need to monitor our thoughts all day, but when we find ourselves smiling, our Mood Barometer is indicating we’re moving towards our path and when we find ourselves frowning, we’re thinking thoughts that are moving us away from that path.

  • The second thing we need is to Interrupt the pattern of thoughts.

Sometimes we can get so good at thinking rubbish, that the thoughts come thick and fast. These are thoughts that don’t support us, but they’re running rampant. There’s no time to even find something better to think about. That’s when we need an interrupter. There are many methods of doing this. Remember when you were little and someone would tell you something you didn’t want to hear, you would makes noises not to hear them. Well, that’s an interrupter. It stops the mind from taking that same path it’s been going along.

  • The next piece is to consciously look for something Neutral to focus on.

This could be the weather, nature, a bird, even a song. This is creating some space and stopping the momentum.

  • When you begin to feel some relief, it’s time for the next step. Encouraging Self-Talk.

We’ve interrupted the pattern. Now it’s time to look for something that our Mood Barometer indicates feels a little better. That comes from our self-talk. Rather than allowing our thoughts to wander, because we haven’t created a new focus yet, consciously choose thoughts that feel better and better. But don’t leap so far that they’re unbelievable.

Use Encouraging Self-Talk to move in the direction of the illuminated path as a neutral space still exists. Your Mood Barometer will guide you. This isn’t rocket science, it’s natural and something we were all born with.

I’ll record a video so that you can see how to use your self-talk to improve your mood.

Improving Your Default Mood

But don’t stop there. We all have a moods are indicating and it’s good to understand what yours may be. For many years, my default mood was Worry. I would worry about everything and that seemed normal. Then I moved my default mood up the map to Boredom. That was where I spent a lot of my time. Now my default mood is more around Enthusiasm and Eagerness. So make sure your default mood is not so far down the Mood Map that as soon as you move in direction, you’re feeling blame or anger. We’re more likely to notice the signs we’re getting lost, if our default mood is closer to our path.

In summary, the tool you’re looking for is a bridge. The steps along that bridge are:

  • Awareness,
  • Interruption,
  • Neutralising,
  • Encouraging Self-Talk.

Remember the Rules

There are two warnings.

  1. Don’t try huge leaps. You’ll end up in the river if you try and jump over the bridge.
  2. You can’t stop on the bridge because you’ll go backward. Those old thoughts still have momentum and you haven’t replaced the momentum with something better yet.

Practice, that’s all it takes. Then, when you get lost and you will from time to time, you have the tools to traverse the bridge and move towards your path.

But start at the beginning because, until you interrupt that pattern, you can’t even see that there is a bridge.

How To Deepen Your Mind-Body Connection

How To Deepen Your Mind-Body Connection

Did you know that what you think and how you feel, comes out in your body? It’s a true indicator of the mind-body connection.

Your body is made up of trillions of cells that each have intelligence. They know exactly what they need to do to be in balance and create optimum health at any time. This is your peak experience of health and well-being.

Importance of Balance

Each of your cells intelligence is programmed from inception to be in balance, but these same cells can be reprogrammed. This happens when they eavesdrop on your thoughts and your thoughts are not supporting that balance of health and well-being.

Just think, your body is perfectly balanced in health and well-being when you are feeling healthy and balanced. As soon as you begin to think otherwise, your cells begin to listen. Think thoughts often and they become a belief. This belief creates your mood and your body responds to this new programming.

For instance, studies have been conducted that connect anger, anxiety and rage with everything from heart failure to cancer. But you don’t even need to be angry. Sadness will lower your immune system so that you are susceptible to even the common cold. When you are depressed you have depressed cells. When you are excited, your cells are in peak condition and exude endorphins.

How Did You Come To Be Out Of Balance?

When you were born, you were a perfect expression of joy. You were still feeling the connection of source energy from where you came and life was simple and wondrous.

As you grew, your parents began to mould you into their belief patterns by feeding you indicators of whether they thought you were moving in the right direction or not. These indicators were smiles and encouragement when you did something that was pleasing and admonishment when you did something that wasn’t.  So rather than listen to the Mood Barometer within, you began to listen to the guidance of your parents, or whoever brought you up.

Now this would work well if your parents were balanced and understood that you were an advanced being that had its own barometer which would guide you along your path brilliantly. But most parents didn’t and still don’t understand this, thinking that a child is an empty vessel that needs to be filled with ideas and beliefs that are outdated and inaccurate.

Listening To Your Own Guidance

As soon as you began to please someone else rather than listen to your own Mood Barometer, your mood began to shift and you felt less than great. When you would express how you felt, you would be guided in a way that took you further and further from that good feeling place where you began your journey.

Instead of listening to your own guidance, you began to look for others to indicate how you were traveling. If your friends were happy, you must be doing something right and if they were angry with you, you must have done something wrong. This is the reprogramming that occurred. It taught you to listen to others instead of listening to yourself. You have reprogrammed your Mind-Body belief system.

Finally, For The Truth

You weren’t taught what a wondrous, amazing human being you truly were. That you were born on this leading edge of reality with all the tools necessary to create the Best Reality you could imagine. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in every one of us. And we all began the same.

So when you were further from your life’s purpose you would feel a little less great. A little further still and you would begin to feel moods that weren’t balanced with your optimum health. These were your indicators of reprogramming. It didn’t agree with who you really were so it didn’t feel good. If you stayed in that mood for long, you would begin to feel the effects in your body as the cells eavesdropping on the thoughts in your mind, would show you evidence of how you felt through your body.

A Foolproof System

It was a foolproof system, designed so that you would take notice of your pain and clean up your thoughts so that you could once again be in balance with your health and well-being. It is a really simple system. All pain is the imbalance of your thoughts. Change your thoughts and you change your mood. Your dominant mood creates your reality, both in your body and in your life.

So now that you do know the power of your thoughts, choose them carefully and clean up the resistance in your body. Your body will thank you.
