Recognizing The Guidance of Our Higher-Self

We are Never Alone

If we are being guided, then how do we recognize the guidance our Higher-Self is providing?

Less than 10% of who we are, incarnates into the physical world, the other 90% stays behind in non-physical to guide us. Which means we are never alone. Even when we think we are (check out Footprints in the Sand poem, Mary Stevenson 1936), there is always our non-physical family guiding us towards some relief.

We call this non-physical family our Higher-Self and that’s quite an accurate description. Our guidance has the clarity that we can’t see and has a much broader perspective from which to gain information. Our Higher-Self carries the wisdom of hindsight and can see all the opportunities that will present themselves. No matter what you call them, our Higher-Self always has our best interests at heart.

So how do we recognise our Higher Self speaking?

Does it come from words or is it painted on a billboard?

It can come in many, many different ways. Through thought and inspiration, via a friend or acquaintance, even a complete stranger. It can be written on a billboard or in the sand, often at 3am or in the midst of a crisis.

How do we know what is guidance?

That’s a really great question. Often we don’t. We are stubborn as human beings and we miss the message. But don’t worry, we’ll get another and another. We’ve all heard the story of a man who was waiting for God to save him. Here’s a reminder:

A man was sitting on the roof of his house in a severe flood, waiting for God to save him. A row- boat came along and asked the man to jump in. He refused, saying that he was waiting for God to save him. The deeply religious man had great faith and it wasn’t long until a rescue squad turned up. Refusing their help, he stated faithfully that God would save him. The water was rising rapidly and swirling all around him. He was getting very nervous when a helicopter hovered overhead and sent down a rope. The man ignored it, saying that God wouldn’t let him down in his hour of need.

higher self, guidanceThe stranded man drowned and when he went to heaven asked God “Why didn’t you save me? I was standing on my roof surrounded by water, waiting for you to come. Why didn’t you come?” God replied, “I sent you two rescue boats and a helicopter. What more did you want?” 

Recognising the messages from our Higher-Self is a significant part of our own expansion. Sometimes they sound like a whisper and other times, like anger. It’s not because they’re angry with us, but because that is all we can hear. Our higher self will always send someone to intersect our situation, reflect our moods and divert a path that seems out of control.

Does Our Higher-Self sound like Love?

The people around us are our messengers. When we come across an angry person, it isn’t because we’re angry, it’s because that’s all we can hear. It’s often enough to help us change direction. When we have a car accident or a cancer, it isn’t the first hint that something is awry. We have ignored a stream of higher interventions to arrive at this point.

It’s ok if we don’t recognise the people who reflect us as heaven sent. They don’t realise they’re an instigator for change in our lives. They’re not looking for accolades. They’re there to do a job and that’s to get our attention. When this happens, we can make different choices. Is this the direction we want or would we prefer something better?

Does the Higher-Self Judge Us?

It’s not the job of our Higher-Self to judge what’s right and what’s wrong for us. It’s their job to support and love us and offer us a path in the direction we chose before we even came into this life. This they do in whatever capacity we can notice. For instance, when we are angry, we can’t hear harps and angels, we can only hear anger. When we’re depressed, we’re a long way from having inspiration, but we can notice people that belittle us.

So next time you’re having a bad day, look at what has presented itself, whether people or situations and instead of blaming them for your bad mood, ask yourself one question? “What are they telling me?” The answer is always right in front of you. It’s manifested by your mood.

Alleviate Fear and Light Your Path

Let there be light. I often think about what it would be like to go to a new place and set up my life in totally unfamiliar territory. I have done that and I still ponder taking on this challenge again. It didn’t always go according to plan. So that gives me not only a sense of the unknown, but a memory of things having gone wrong. Rather than the fear of a completely knew scenario, there is also the fear that things may not work at all. It doesn’t paralyse me, but it does put that next step on the back burner (at least for a little while).

But that’s not how I want to feel. I want to feel the excitement of a new scene. I want to expand my horizons with new opportunities, and I do want to feel the exhilaration of the wind in my hair as I travel in the fast lane. I really love and want to experience more funcitement. (That’s a word I came up with. It’s excitement without the fear and lots of fun instead.) Getting up every morning with a sense of achievement and a whole new world ahead of me, is my idea of funcitement.

So how do I achieve the fun without the fear?

I pondered this in my meditation and this is the vision I received. My guidance was standing with me. There were many standing behind me and shedding much light in many directions but it was still dark ahead. Then I asked them to move ahead of me and send the light ahead. The fear dissipated as I was surrounded by light. The light wasn’t coming from me and emanating outward. It was ahead of me and lighting the path back towards me.

What was unknown became visible. That’s always the key to fear. Making the unknown, familiar. Rather than the light moving outward, it was illuminating the path in front of me. Instead of it coming from me, it was traveling to me.

Now I know from experience that feeling the funcitement and making decisions is the best way to create joy, however, the next piece of the puzzle is in holding the light. Because when I am on my journey and things happen quickly, as they tend to do, I have a tendency to wander into fear mode. It’s much like buyers remorse but it’s worse. Much worse. It’s decision remorse.  And it leaves me second guessing myself by pondering if I wouldn’t have been better off where I was before. These types of thoughts leave me feeling totally unsupported so it’s not a game I’d like to play over and over again. (Even though many people do.)

Thriving in The Light of Change

I want to feel a sense of sureness and security from a move into the unknown. I need to feel supported. Plus a sense of this being right. Also the feeling of sureness of myself and my decision. To believe in myself, because if it was right before, it is still right now.

It’s practicing that last detail that will advance my journey forward into the unknown. I’m never alone and if I feel that I am, I know I’m not connected to my source energy. When that happens, my focus is to get connected. Because when I’m connected, I can see the light my guidance shines towards me. I feel powerful in my own life. That’s how I want to live my life moving forward. Powerful and connected to who I really am.

Finding the Guidance Within

To move in the direction of my dreams I have taken a 30 Day Challenge to spend 10 minutes a day (or night) writing, speaking or recording ‘as if’ the future has already unfolded. In this way my future self is illuminating the path for my reality self. In essence I am showing myself the way forward. It’s tapping into my higher guidance and finding the answers within. I love this method as I glean a lot of insight into what steps to take next.

The ‘as if’ method is nothing new. In fact, imagining ‘as if’ something has already happened is even in the bible I am told. The part that was illuminated for me, is the lighting of the path for my now self to follow. In effect, showing myself the way forward.

How to Create your Best Life

Just as your Mood Barometer translates emotions, you were also born with an internal Mood Map. This is a guide for creating your best life through consciously choosing your emotions. The reason your emotions are important is because your Mood creates your Reality. Your reality is what you are living now.

This internal Mood Map indicates the direction in which you are emotionally traveling. This Mood Map has been a guiding path all your life, whether you were aware of it or not.

Internal Guidepost

When you move in a direction that is in alignment with your Higher Self who holds the light for you, your emotions are uplifting. This is your natural state of being. If you move you in a direction that is not in alignment with your Higher Self you feel emotions of fear, anger, depression, disappointment, or blame. This is supposed to feel uncomfortable. If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t change it.

So when you experienced these emotions at any time in your life, you were witnessing your Mood Map in motion. Unlike the GPS in your car, it does not have to be plugged in or given directions, as it’s always working to guide you towards your Source Energy. You came from Source and you are always connected to Source. Just as the moon influences the tides, so too does Source give indicators of your direction.

You can recognize some of the guideposts easily, as, ‘fear’ or ‘love.’ Most you probably don’t recognize, but understanding your Mood Map is an opportunity to consciously choose your emotions and choose a new reality.

You were born with a Mood Map to guide you on your journey of life. The Map itself helps you to see where you are in relation to where you want to be and the only place you ever want to be, is connected. The mood of joy, fun, laughter and enthusiasm are naturally where you want to be as this is your connection. It is the only mood that will harmonize with your desires.

The importance of understanding your Mood Map is to move through life with fun and joy, knowing that every decision you make is the right one at this time. It’s beginning to trust your inner guidance. The guidance that shows you how to notice how one decision feels over another.

There are Always Two Choices

  1. This one that feels better or
  2. That one that doesn’t

So when you look at a choice you have, if one feels better, it’s higher on the mood map than the other then you know it’s the best choice to make as it’s taking you in the direction of your dreams.

It’s the emotional weight that helps you make any decision and if there’s no clear choice, then either the decision doesn’t matter a lot. It’s not that important to you, so either choice is fine, or maybe you shouldn’t be making a decision at all just yet because you don’t have enough information.

You Choose Your Mood

You are the only person who gets to choose your mood. Since your mood is a product of your dominant emotion, you do have control over changing what you don’t want. Your mood is actually a manifestation of your thoughts, so if you aren’t happy with your mood, take heed and change your thoughts now.

It doesn’t work to blame others for your mood, even if they had an influence. In the end you are the person who chooses your thoughts and you also reap the consequences of those thoughts.

No one is ever to blame for how you feel. Therefore, nobody can take your power away from you. When you buy into someone elses drama, opinions and emotion, you are handing your power over to another.

Your emotions are an indicator of how you are traveling on your Mood Map in relation to where you are going. Where you are standing now and what has happened in the past has no bearing on your future unless you allow it to do so.

Everything you want in life is aligned with Joy, Love, Compassion, Freedom and Inspiration. Your only job is to move your thoughts to things that feel better and better and practice moving your emotions higher and higher on the Mood Map.
