How to Embrace Our Own Sacred Scars

In a world filled with shattered dreams and broken spirits, one woman came out as triumphant. Her name is Geraldine. She chose to see her journey through life as an adventure. And even though fraught with challenges and hardships, it was through embracing her sacred scars that she discovered the true essence of redemption.

Redemption is a sacred thread that weaves its way through our hearts, minds, and souls. It invites us to confront our shadows, embrace our scars, and emerge into the light of healing and growth.

Sacred Scars in The Winds of Change

Geraldine’s story began in a small village nestled amidst rolling hills and vibrant meadows. From a young age, she possessed an unyielding spirit and an insatiable thirst for adventure. But as fate would have it, life had other plans for her.

However, a tragic event shook Geraldine’s world to its core. A devastating accident left her physically scarred and emotionally wounded. It felt as if the very essence of her being had been shattered, and she struggled to find her place in a world that seemed determined to break her, emotionally and physically.

She was often overcome with grief, anger, blame, and resentment for a future cut off at the onset. But she knew that regurgitating the past wasn’t going to help her move forward to find a new meaning and a sense of purpose that she was so desperately seeking.

The Turning Point

As Geraldine stared at her reflection in the mirror one morning, she saw something she had never noticed before. Instead of the disgust for her scarred body, and the resentment it had surfaced, she was overcome with a sense of peace at the beauty within her scars. She found herself looking as if from a new perspective, almost an out-of-body experience. There was strength in those marks, a testament to the battles she had fought for her life and survived.

Moreover, she realized that her scars were not a symbol of weakness, but rather a badge of honor. These were sacred scars and they represented her resilience and the indomitable spirit that dwelled deep within her. She had pushed them down and rejected her spirit for long enough. So with a newfound sense of purpose, Geraldine embarked on a quest to embrace her sacred scars and discover the redemption that awaited her. She wanted to feel her sense of spirit return. With intent and focus she was seeking healing and the freedom it contained. In fact, she was worn out from being disappointed in herself and her life.

The Journey Within the Sacred Scars

Geraldine’s quest took her through treacherous terrains and uncharted waters. Along the way, she encountered her fears, doubts, and insecurities. There were many times when she wanted to give up and hide away in her own shadow, not to be seen in public.

This was a powerful journey of self-discovery, as she delved deep into the recesses of her soul, confronting the demons that had haunted her for so long. These demons seemed real. Like the taunts and stares of others, the whispers behind her back, and the sideways looks of pity quickly averting their gaze so as not to be seen. But she knew this was an inner journey. Her demons were her own and nobody else could ever console her in this state. Not her friends, her family or her loved ones. This was her journey and she knew it.

So she used meditation to connect inwardly. Then she added visualization for her body as she knew how she wanted to feel about herself, it didn’t matter anymore about how others saw her. And slowly the impenetrable walls she had built began to crumble and fall.

Healing is a journey, and although you have a win on one day, there will be an old devil pop up, in the form of a thought or a challenge, whether physical or emotional, on the next day.

All Scars are Sacred

In addition, Geraldine discovered the power of forgiveness and acceptance. She learned to nurture her wounds, both physically and emotionally, with compassion and grace. Each scar became a reminder of her triumphs, a symbol of her ability to rise above adversity and emerge stronger than before. The realization was that all scars within us, both physical and emotional, are sacred.

Sacred Scars are The Gift of Empathy

As Geraldine embraced her own scars, she developed a profound empathy for others who bore their own wounds. She realized that everyone carries their own sacred scars, and each with a story to tell. So with a heart filled with love and compassion, she extended a helping hand to those in need, offering solace and support along their own paths to healing and redemption. Reigniting the flame of purpose and meaning.

Consequently, Geraldine’s journey became a source of inspiration for others. Her unwavering spirit and her willingness to confront her own pain ignited a flame of hope in the hearts of those who had lost their way. She became a guiding light, reminding them that redemption is not a distant dream but a tangible reality within their grasp.

Embracing Sacred Scars

In the end, Geraldine discovered that embracing her sacred scars was not just about accepting her past but also about embracing the present and future. And if there was one gift that redemption had given to her that stood out, it was to let go of the opinions of others. They didn’t matter. So it was a reminder that life’s challenges are not meant to break us but to shape us into the resilient beings we are destined to become.

Geraldine’s own adventure taught her that redemption is not a request to be granted by religious or external forces, but a choice we make within ourselves for empathy and compassion in our lives.  In the tapestry of our lives, we all bear sacred scars. They are reminders of our humanity, our strength, and our capacity for growth. Like Geraldine, we have the power to transform our scars from symbols of pain to emblems of redemption. When we embrace our sacred scars, within them lies the potential for healing, transformation, and a life lived with purpose.

This is because the emotional and spiritual benefits of redemption are immeasurable, enabling us to reclaim our lives and rewrite our narratives with compassion, resilience, and an unwavering belief in the power of the human spirit.

Who am I?

I’m Gayle Maree, creator of 6 Dimensions of Healing, author, mother, Past Life Therapist and Spiritual Counselor for over 23 years.

Someone once told me (a well-respected mentor) that people need “experts” to live a life they value… and I didn’t believe them.

I thought everybody could do it on their own because I did. I figured out what didn’t work in my life and then I changed it. Actually, I changed me. And it was a LOT of work!

Not because I was trying to impress those that told me I had a ‘bad attitude’ or I had something to prove to people who thought I was lousy at pretty well everything, but because there were aspects of me that even I didn’t like. I wanted improvements in me and my life.

Change Versus Comfort

It was obvious to me that if I didn’t make changes I could expect more of the same in my life as before. The same things that didn’t work, the same relationships that my parents had.

I wanted more. Mostly, I wanted my kids to be proud of me. Damn it, I wanted to be proud of myself.

So, I set about what would be a continuous, amazing journey.

I’ve been with my Spiritual Soulmate over 30 years now and we still work on the relationship, we work on improving us, because we know that whatever we want, to get it we need to be different to how we were.

And I listen so much more now because I value the wisdom of my non-physical guides who have been with me for as long as I can remember.

Now it’s your turn

This is the same path I used to make the changes that led to a valued and prosperous life. So much more than I ever imagined.

The path is laid out in our book 6 Dimensions of Healing
