18 Health Benefits of Being Happy

“Happiness is the Meaning and Purpose of Life”

Whether you run, ride, swim or walk, spend time in nature or just enjoy life. Being happy has immense health benefits. This creates the foundation for joy and a healthy longevity that go way beyond food and vitamin pills.

“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle said these words more than 2,000 years ago, and they still ring true today.

Aristotle – Greek Philosopher 19 June 384 BC – 7 March 322 BC

Often we have success in achieving a happy mood with people around us that we don’t know very well. That’s because we haven’t invested any of our hard earned emotion in these people. These are the ones it’s best to practice being happy on. It’s the path to establishing a pattern of being happy.

It’s family that seem to push our buttons the most and that’s probably because they installed them. But even if you can’t find a tree to sit under or a country path to meander, you still have hope for family get togethers. The greatest tool known to man is yours free and it’s your imagination.

You Really Can Fool Your Mind

Did you know that your mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined? That’s why you can wake from a nightmare in a cold sweat with heart palpitations from fear. Your conscious imagination is the key to creating a happy reality. You can gain the same benefits from imagining as you can from physically being there. Whether you are enjoying the serene benefits of nature in your mind, it can be as good as actually being there in person. And your mind doesn’t know the difference. It will begin to create endorphins in response.

Maybe its just not possible to canoe the tropical waters of Fiji, or have a massage on the beach in Tahiti, but you can still imagine it. For instance, imagine feeling that warm breeze on your face and the smell of the salty ocean air. Hear the seagulls in the distant blue sky. In addition, you can imagine the warmth of the sun on your body and relax listening to the sound of the waves gently rolling in and out. Sure you need to use your words instead of your eyes, but often people don’t take in their surroundings with appreciation even when they are there.

Health Benefits of Imagining

There are upsides to imagining the beach and not actually being there. For instance, there are no mosquitoes, bugs or uncomfortable sunburn. It can be as warm or as cool as you like.

You can be on your own or with someone you love. Choose the scenario that makes you feel great. It helps the endorphins kick in, spreading ‘happy cells’ throughout your body. This means you don’t need to rely on anybody acting a certain way for you to feel good. You can do it yourself, no matter where you are or what’s happening around you.

You can download free meditations here. Download them to your phone and listen for 10-15 minutes per day to the soothing sounds of the beach or use you imagination in the guided sunset meditation. 15 minutes relaxation a day will change your life.

Happiness is a Lifestyle Choice

Although you won’t be happy all the time, it’s really a lifestyle choice to be happy in this moment and in this. Happiness is not a goal it’s a commitment we make to ourselves and for ourselves. It will take practice to develop a happy lifestyle pattern, but it is worth the effort.

You want to be happy because happy people have access to things that unhappy people don’t.

For instance:

  1. Magnet for opportunities
  2. Loyal fun friends
  3. Improved family relationships
  4. Connection with Source
  5. Appreciation of nature
  6. An easier life
  7. Attract Happy circumstances
  8. Jobs and work you love
  9. Being in the right place at the right time
  10. Feeling supported
  11. Abundance of time and freedom
  12. Great weather
  13. Fun experiences
  14. Great people to share it with
  15. Reduced stress levels
  16. Better health
  17. Sense of general well being
  18. Trust and Belief in the Universe

Happiness is an Attitude

The list goes on. These may not seem to be health benefits but they are. Your attitude determines the quality of your life and happiness is an attitude. When you are happy, life becomes easier. Things just work out. The more often you become happy, the more things work out for you and the more often you’ll believe they will. This cycle becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy which staves off illness and disease. If you do get sick, moving your mood to become happy once again will help you get better more quickly.

You don’t become healthy and then happy. You become happy and then healthy

Being happy is your natural state of being. You were born to be happy.

If you’re not happy now, begin with small steps and look for things to be happy about. Set your intentions each morning to look for things to feel happy about.

Happy people create happy circumstances and a happy reality which is called life. Here are 12 Habits That Happy People Develop.

Who am I?

I’m Gayle Maree, creator of 6 Dimensions of Healing, author, mother, Past Life Therapist and Spiritual Counselor for over 23 years.

Someone once told me (a well-respected mentor) that people need “experts” to live a life they value… and I didn’t believe them.

I thought everybody could do it on their own because I did. I figured out what didn’t work in my life and then I changed it. Actually, I changed me. And it was a LOT of work!

Not because I was trying to impress those that told me I had a ‘bad attitude’ or I had something to prove to people who thought I was lousy at pretty well everything, but because there were aspects of me that even I didn’t like. I wanted improvements in me and my life.

Change Versus Comfort

It was obvious to me that if I didn’t make changes I could expect more of the same in my life as before. The same things that didn’t work, the same relationships that my parents had.

I wanted more. Mostly, I wanted my kids to be proud of me. Damn it, I wanted to be proud of myself.

So, I set about what would be a continuous, amazing journey.

I’ve been with my Spiritual Soulmate over 30 years now and we still work on the relationship, we work on improving us, because we know that whatever we want, to get it we need to be different to how we were.

And I listen so much more now because I value the wisdom of my non-physical guides who have been with me for as long as I can remember.

Now it’s your turn

This is the same path I used to make the changes that led to a valued and prosperous life. So much more than I ever imagined.

The path is laid out in our book 6 Dimensions of Healing
