From Dream to Nightmare. How People Who Win the Lottery Lose it All

Everybody wants to win the lottery. When you ask people if they had one wish, what would they wish for, invariably, most people say they would want to win the lottery.

This is an article not only about the way people lose their winnings but also about what YOU can do now to make sure when the time comes that you’ll keep all your winnings safe and have a truly wonderful life.

A Lottery Win is a Dream Come True

Winning the lottery is often seen as a dream come true, a chance to finally live the life you’ve always wanted. But for many, that dream quickly turns into a nightmare as they find themselves broke within just a few short years. So, what goes wrong?

Here are five reasons why people lose all their money within five years after winning the lottery:

1. Money doesn’t Dissolve Money blocks:

Winning the lottery is a life-changing event, but it’s not something that most people are prepared for. Without a solid financial plan in place, it’s easy to fall into the trap of spending money on things that don’t matter, like expensive cars and luxury vacations. Before you know it, the money is gone, and you’re left with nothing to show for it. If you have blocks around money then money won’t solve this problem.

2. Pressure from Friends and Family:

Winning the lottery can also put a lot of pressure on you from the people around you. Friends and family will ask for loans or gifts, and it can be hard to say no. This can lead to overspending and financial trouble for you the winner and the people you loan to who keep wanting more because of their poor money habits.

3. Poor Investment Choices:

Many lottery winners think they have to invest their money to make it grow, but they often make poor choices. They may invest in high-risk, high-return schemes that turn out to be scams or invest in a business that they know nothing about. This can lead to financial losses and leave them with nothing. And there is no end to the people offering these schemes.

4. Lifestyle Inflation:

Winning the lottery can also lead to lifestyle inflation, where people start to spend more money on things they don’t need, like designer clothes and fancy cars. They start to believe that they deserve these luxuries and end up spending more money than they should. You’ve seen these people. The ones with the Jaguars that they buy not just for themselves but for their family members too.

5. Addiction and Mental Health Issues:

Winning the lottery can also be a trigger for addiction and mental health issues. People may start to rely on money as a crutch, and when it’s gone, they’re left feeling lost and alone. This can lead to depression, addiction and other mental health issues.

6. Extra one! Employing family and friends

That doesn’t actually work. We see this time and time again. Where people employ family members to do a job that they’re either not skilled in or they just don’t do. Family and friends tend to think that the financial pot is endless. This even happened to Elvis Presley and he’s certainly not alone.

It’s true that there are financial sharks out there waiting to take your money. But you can get around that by remaining anonymous or getting financial advice from a professional (not your uncle). And you can set boundaries for people in your life such as family, friends and new-found besties.

There’s a Deeper Reason For Losing the Lottery Win

But there’s a much deeper reason why the money has gone. It’s not because you were a bad person or that you met a lot of bad people that took it off you, or that you couldn’t say no, it was deeper than that.

Money doesn’t make you a better person, you need to become a better person to use it wisely and for it to stick around or multiply.

Do you Need a Millionaire Mindset?

The reason you don’t have that money anymore is because you didn’t become the person who owned that money. You didn’t shift to becoming a millionaire in your mind. The work wasn’t done to catch up to your new status. You didn’t do the quantum leap to gain a millionaire mindset. But it goes deeper than this as there are so many layers.

You see for most people, winning the lotto is a quantum leap. It’s a big jump from the life they were living before. They’ve gone from struggling, trying to find a bargain and looking for a deal on their next car service to now having not to worry about any of that. In fact, they are enjoying the freedom they were looking for and now it’s arrived. So why doesn’t it stay around? The freedom, the lifestyle, the money?

Because most people (95% of winners in fact) see the money as an end result and it’s not, it’s only there to help you become the person you want to be. To become the best version of yourself. Everything you want is there for that purpose. Money doesn’t make you a better person, you need to become a better person to use it wisely and for it to stick around or multiply.

Money Won’t Help You Become A Better Person

Thinking that winning the lottery will help you become the best version of yourself is a false premise. You see whenever a quantum leap happens, then there’s a period of catching up that needs to quickly follow. Because the dream and the dreamer aren’t usually in the same space until they unite. When a quantum leap occurs, then the dream arrives and expects you to catch up rather quickly, otherwise, it will disappear.

In this case, the dream of the lottery win expects you to be able to cope with the abundance, the finance, the pressure from family and friends, and the responsibility. It expects you to know the difference between genuine and false in both people and deals.

For instance, when we first took over a healing practice a lot of things came together synchronistically to make that happen. But we went from corporate finance and working for somebody else to healing practitioners working for themselves. It was a quantum leap and we were struggling for the first few months, to see ourselves as healers, to step into that role. Not physically but emotionally. And that comfort gradually increased over the next couple of years. 17 years down the track and we really do identify as healers.

A Lottery Win is Not About Mindset But Identity

And that’s what we’re talking about here. Not mindset but identity. Your identity is who YOU believe you are and it creates:

  • your mindset
  • the belief patterns that you have and
  • the habits you use in your life

All of these add up to your reality.

How to Win Lottery and Keep the Cash

When your life has moved somewhere different from your current identity then you need to catch up. The emotional shifts in your identity need to change to become a more advanced version so that you can move into the life you love such as the one you have when you win the lottery.

So you may win the lottery but if you’ve been living in a scarcity mindset up until the win it’s because your identity is one of ‘life is difficult’ and you ‘need to struggle to get ahead’ etc. This identity is not a match with the freedom and lifestyle of winning the lottery. This means that you need to change your identity quickly smart to embrace the abundant lifestyle you’re now living, or you’ll lose it. Not because you aren’t good with finances but because it’s just not a vibrational match with your identity. So something else will take its place that is a match to your identity. Money is energy and energy can never be lost or disappear but it certainly can be redistributed.

The Most Reliable Way to Become a Millionaire

This quick identity shift is a quantum leap and quantum leaps are uncomfortable. That’s because there are a lot of things that need to change to create new patterns of abundance. So these big shifts don’t happen very often in your life. That’s why the most reliable way to become a millionaire is slowly. Not necessarily a whole lifetime slowly but in a flowing, growing way. This means you gain some funds, increase the value of your identity, your funds expand, your identity expands and so forth until you identify with the millionaire or billionaire that you’ve become. In this way, the millionaire lifestyle is a natural progression. It’s like a skin that slowly stretches as you grow. It fits and it’s comfortable.

So maybe you don’t really want to win the lottery at all, maybe what you really want is to become a match with being a millionaire. Then you feel abundant and the life that matches that abundance has to follow.

The question to ask yourself is: How do I create a millionaire identity?

Who am I?

I’m Gayle Maree, creator of 6 Dimensions of Healing, author, mother, Past Life Therapist and Spiritual Counselor for over 23 years.

Someone once told me (a well-respected mentor) that people need “experts” to live a life they value… and I didn’t believe them.

I thought everybody could do it on their own because I did. I figured out what didn’t work in my life and then I changed it. Actually, I changed me. And it was a LOT of work!

Not because I was trying to impress those that told me I had a ‘bad attitude’ or I had something to prove to people who thought I was lousy at pretty well everything, but because there were aspects of me that even I didn’t like. I wanted improvements in me and my life.

Change Versus Comfort

It was obvious to me that if I didn’t make changes I could expect more of the same in my life as before. The same things that didn’t work, the same relationships that my parents had.

I wanted more. Mostly, I wanted my kids to be proud of me. Damn it, I wanted to be proud of myself.

So, I set about what would be a continuous, amazing journey.

I’ve been with my Spiritual Soulmate over 30 years now and we still work on the relationship, we work on improving us, because we know that whatever we want, to get it we need to be different to how we were.

And I listen so much more now because I value the wisdom of my non-physical guides who have been with me for as long as I can remember.

Now it’s your turn

This is the same path I used to make the changes that led to a valued and prosperous life. So much more than I ever imagined.

The path is laid out in our book 6 Dimensions of Healing
