Facing Fear to Ignite your Passion

What’s scarier than the unknown? It’s like standing at the edge of a cliff, peering into an abyss of uncertainty, facing fear. Or the shivers that run down your spine when you switch off the lights and everything goes pitch black.

The unknown is the monster under our beds, the shadowy figure in our nightmares. At least that’s in the imagination of a child. But as an adult it’s the fear of change, of losing control, of stepping out of our comfort zones.

In one of our favorite Indiana Jones films, to save his father, Jones finds himself high above the ground in a cavernous hole. The pitch-black night obscures any visible path. Yet, Jones bravely takes a step into the deep black void, and only then does the path reveal itself. It’s more than just a movie scene; it’s a metaphor for taking bold steps into the unknown.

Facing Fear of the Unknown

I know firsthand how the fear of the unknown can paralyze us, keeping us stuck in our safe, predictable routines, whether we’re happy in them or not.  Sometimes we can hear that calling within but because we can’t see the steps in front of us, we’re afraid of taking the first one.

But what if, instead of running away or trying to ignore this fear, we faced it head-on? This is the journey we’re about to begin here – from fear to freedom, facing fear and embracing the unknown in life’s second half.

The unknown, particularly as we move into the next chapter of our lives, can be daunting. But, what if we viewed it as an exciting opportunity?

Leverage for Facing Fear

Life’s next chapter presents a unique chance of facing your fear to embrace the unknown. This is because it’s an opportunity to shed insecurities and leap into the freedom of new experiences. But firstly we need to find some leverage.

Getting leverage over yourself is crucial when facing fear. Because it’s about understanding the stakes – recognizing that the cost of giving in to fear is far greater than the discomfort of confronting it.

Picture yourself many years from now, looking back at your life. Would you rather see a glorious, fulfilling and happy life filled with courage, bold choices, and exciting adventures? Or a plain canvas, happy enough but with disappointment that there weren’t more exciting moments to contribute to the world in a heartfelt way. This means you’ll be settling for less than the best version of yourself.

It might contain some risk-taking and certainly a lot of growth, but do you really want to feel devoid of the vibrant life that comes from stepping into the unknown?

Facing Fear by Reflecting

This can be your leverage. As the thought of reaching the end of your life filled with regret for the opportunities missed and paths untraveled can be a powerful motivator. It can propel you to step out of your comfort zone, face your fears, and seize the opportunities that life’s next chapter presents.

Remember, it’s not just about avoiding future regret; but about creating a future that you’ll look back on with pride and satisfaction. This means you know you truly lived.

However, it’s natural to fear the unfamiliar. Our minds are wired to seek comfort in what’s known and predictable, that’s why it’s called a comfort zone. But, here’s the twist – it’s in the unknown that we often find our true selves.

From Facing Fear to Freedom

So, how do we shift from fear to freedom? Let’s look into this.

Courage: Embracing the unknown begins with courage. Courage to step out of your comfort zone. Courage to challenge the status quo, to find the leverage you need. You’ll be surprised at the strength you find within yourself.

Mindset: Keep a positive mindset. Old patterns of doubt can surface and keep you stuck. Remind yourself that change is a part of life and often leads to growth and new experiences. Each day is a fresh start, a new opportunity.

Curiosity: Be curious. Ask questions. Explore. Don’t settle for ‘happy enough’. The unknown is a vast expanse waiting for you to chart your course and it presents itself when facing fear.

Resilience: Develop resilience. Not all experiences will be positive, but each one provides an opportunity to move forward and make a different decision. Bounce back, adapt, and keep moving forward.

Acceptance: Accept uncertainty. It’s a part of life. Facing fear is uncertainty in a nutshell. Accepting this fact frees us from fear and opens us to new possibilities. Close the loop. “I feel fear because I believe that I need to.”

While this transition may feel daunting, remember, you’re not alone. You’re always guided within. First with a whisper and then a gentle nudge before it’s a big push. Many people have navigated this journey before you and have emerged not only stronger and happier but more fulfilled.

Facing Fear Gives You Your Life Back

Embracing the unknown in life’s second half is about more than just facing fear. It’s about seizing the opportunity to redefine your life on your own terms and truly believing in yourself.

Just one step at a time. The secret is not to get too far ahead of yourself.

Consider this a gentle warning. Fear can overtake people, causing them to stray from their desired path. It’s akin to disregarding the advice of your higher self. When this happens, the message amplifies, growing stronger.

People often break promises they’ve made to themselves, leading life to retaliate with accidents, misfortune, and struggles. However, your dreams don’t vanish, they only grow stronger. So, never fret over missed opportunities. There’s always another one waiting, and then another. Opportunities are endless.

Facing Fear can be Scary but Also Freeing

Stepping into the unknown means facing fear. Yes, it’s scary, but it’s also unavoidable. So, what is something you aspire to do, be, or have, but you’ve been delaying because you can’t see the entire picture?

Age is never a barrier. You might just discover that life’s second half can be as thrilling, gratifying, and fulfilling as the first half, if not significantly more so!

Who am I?

Someone once told me (a well-respected mentor) that people need “experts” to live a life they value… and I didn’t believe them.

I thought everybody could find their Purpose on their own because I did. I figured out what didn’t work in my life and then I changed it. Actually, I changed me and my direction many times. And come to think of it, it was a LOT of work over MANY years!

And every time I would discover something that worked, all would be sweet and then that method would stop working. Have you ever found that? And I couldn’t work out why. I just thought it wasn’t the right method for me.

But it turns out that it was, it’s just that I had limiting beliefs standing in the way. QUITE A FEW! That I didn't even realize were there, and when I could transform those, things began to work again. My life would flow beautifully and I’d get those synchronicities to let me know I’m on track.

So that's what we do for our clients now, empower them to discover their purpose even through life’s transitions so they can reignite the spark in their next chapter.
